Getting Rid of Matthew
Helen (Lucy Hale) follows her heart. She has followed it all the way to the bright lights of New York and to her dream job. And now it leads to Matthew (Luke Wilson): her brilliant, charismatic, debonair and impossibly confident boss.
Charmed and not a little awed by him, Helen is swept off her feet and a passionate, written-in-the-stars romance catches fire.
But Matthew’s also married: to the lovely Sophie (Heather Graham), and so every night he goes back to her, breaking off just another little piece of Helen’s heart.
But then, unexpectedly, he turns up one morning at her doorstep – dishevelled, crying, and with all his worldly possessions in tow (including his toy car collection?!) – having suddenly dumped Sophie.
Far from a passionate, escapist fling, Helen realises she’s now stuck living with a man-child with serious arrested development who’s spectacularly falling into a mid-life crisis, and who has a hell of a lot of bad habits…
So, when a chance encounter leads her to befriend Sophie, Helen is caught between keeping her secret safe, and…getting rid of Matthew.
Based on the debut bestseller by Jane Fallon, and from filmmaker Hernán Jiménez, Getting Rid of Matthew is a delicious, spiky and riotously funny comedy about the perils of getting what you asked for.
